It's to do with the "S" word, and there was already an 9-page thread on this before it became a dangerous thing to discuss.

Why are we being silly and beating around the push?

He's talking about the TRS editors picked up for Sedition due to publishing an article accusing a Filipino family (foreigners oh noes) of instigating the Thaipusan (sp?) drummer incident.

If it weren't for zzm's post, I would have said "snuffleupagus."

Oh THAT... I didn't recall the discussion being 'shut down' here*, or the Notice from the AGC. So, thanks!

Well, Big Bird is always mentioning him but as soon anyone takes a look, he's not there.

Someone had to shut down that nonsense.

If I see that Snuffleupagus, then I'll believe it.

Is this concept of avoiding public comments to prevent possible interference with the court's proceedings something typical of Singapore or it is also present, for example, in the UK legal system?

Yes a curious one, I was wondering that too, but then got distracted onto other matters.

AFAIK people discuss cases before a trial has begun, and even during a trial. Yes a juror might read news comments during that trial but the media can't be stopped.

A judge will caution a jury, roughly: 'I would remind the members of the jury NOT to read media reports of this trial whilst it is ongoing'. That's as far as it goes: It can't go further barring locking up the jury each night for possibly weeks or months.

A bigger issue would be a juror speaking to the media during a trial. But I don't recall of hearing that happen. The consequences of that happening would be serious for all parties involved, and rightly so IMO. Any jury seems to contain the full spectrum of opinion, so identifying the source of a specific opinion would be none too hard a task...
