It's plastic rubbish being burnt in a rubbish dump ! It was revealed last night.
Why did it take 5 days for this fact to be made public?
Affecting large area of Sg.

Why the secrecy? That's the OP question I asked.

Nothing gets said until the man decides the children should know. Until then, "everything is awesome."

Did anyone see the lego movie? The first few scenes are strangely familiar.

yep, saw the news finally ..

Not owned by SG, as Singapore dont export garbage, but makes electricity out of the rubbish burned and then use the ash to make new island ;)

I couldn't find any news articles.

However looking at the local air quality map http://aqicn.org/map/singapore/ it seems the air quality in Pasir Gudang is no worse that that in northern or western SG. Come to think of it, it seems a coincidence that the map for Singapore also includes parts of Johore State and specifically gives a reading for P. Gudang, but not for JB ... hmmm.

Also of note is the east-side of SG is not looking too great right now, the zone around P. Lebar, P. Ris, and Changi. This http://www.windfinder.com/weather-maps/ ... 28/103.755 suggests the wind is from the NW right now... so it's not clear what the source of smog hitting the east-side, but not the north/Woodlands, is... :???:
