More seriously, isn't this is a case of 'I can't party, therefore no one must be allowed to?'

I think the upset is with the perceived double-standards between Thaipusam and St Pat's.
The privileges I mentioned refer to the closure of roads and permission for al-fresco drinking for SPD, which were far more muted in the case of Thaipusam. So it is understandable that people question such a disparity and I hardly think that they were targeting the Irish community.
