Applying for PR only for self but not for the spouse

Post by bbmania » Sun, 08 Feb 2015 4:50 pm

Hi there,

I am preparing for PR application and have a couple of questions. I am with PEP and have lived in SG close to 7 years now (US citizen). I am thinking about getting a Singapore citizenship eventually, so as a first step, prepping for the PR application.

My spouse however does not have a plan to apply for SG PR and will stay as US citizen (we are currently separated). Will this create an issue for the application and potential rejection criteria? I'm planning to provide the details of the spouse as we are still married in paper.

Does anyone have an experience as such?

Will greately appreciate if you can share your experience or what you have heard in this regard.

Thanks.

To me it's a negative tick. Can you finalize a divorce ASAP?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I did exactly that in my case; applied SC for myself only; my wife + son remained as PR.
I have my own reasons for doing it this way ie wanted my son to get his own citizenship after completing his NS and wife had some unfinished business to settle back home first.

So, yes, it can be done but success will depend on your own set of circumstances during the application. Good luck!

Plus even if the spouse is not applying, I understood of late ICA asks the details of the spouse as well including occasionally copied of her credentials ...

Not occasionally but if you put your marital status as married then definately you wud need to provide her docs also. Usually the officer would ask the reason why your spouse is not applying.

righly said before finalize your divorce (if you are planning to) then go for the application.
