TV to watch

Post by Brah » Fri, 30 Jan 2015 11:54 pm

Though I dread these kind of threads, have hit the wall with shows to watch, so maybe it's time again for another survey.

It was easy when Mad Men, Breaking Bad and the like were active, now seems a bit of a dry spell.

I know a lot of the current and recent shows, but am sure I'm missing some good ones.

Never cared for anything with zombies or 3-letter acronym crime shows, whatever they call CSI-something these days. The other standbys like House Of Cards are pending the next release, Just Call Saul coming soon, and Episodes is just getting started again.

Agent Carter is doing well. It's tangentially tied to the Marvel money-making machine but it's set in the late 40's and the two lead British actors are a delight to watch.

My wife watches various US series via websites I've mentioned previously.

I don't watch any local TV. In fact I watch very little at all. If I do it's ex the BBC using my VPN connection to 'hack' the iPlayer. Typical cooking, property, and auction-room daytime fodder. Occasional visits to watch evening news analysis/discussion programmes are informative and thought provoking though...

Same here, but I'll go one step further to say that I don't want to watch any TV, or TV broadcast that is, from any country. This leaves me in a bit of a quandary for the news and things like late nite TV shows.

I just want to see the shows I want, without any station breaks, what's coming on next, commercials, or other advertisements. I don't have TV service and I've never owned a Tivo, maybe that would be a solution.

I detest how dumbed-down, over-exaggerated, sales-y, sensationalist, compressed, and intrusive they are. Such as "<recent event> - news at 11", or, the fillers that comes in around 10 minutes before the hour.

Anyone watching TV for some time is numb to this noise.

If you never watch TV, and are re-subjected to the noise, you realize how much unwanted noise you are subjected to, and how frequently you are being manipulated to - accept the breaks in programming, be baited about shows you would otherwise never consider, and be bombarded about food and other 'choices' which are never really good for you.

So, I just watch TV series and movies. Which is why I started this tread - to find new shows that don't suck.
