I'd support this, as long as everyone gets the holiday.
And be in the running with Japan and the Philippines as who has the most number of public holidays.
That will take a long time to match Image

In fact these restrictions are a result of incidents in the past.

'Hence a law was enacted to ban all religious foot processions.'
Except the very noisy/music-backed Chinese funerals processions?

Lol

p.s. Isn't it something to do with keeping 'evil spirits' away?

Why would loud noises keep evil spirits away without sending the good ones away as well, I have no idea.

It's not my culture, so there's no way I can suggest how that works (for them) either.

But you'll have seen just about every Chinese funeral procession being followed by the likes of a New Orleans jazz band. And it is raucously (inaccurately) played, with the focus seeming to be about making as much noise as is humanly possible... easily audible from 100M away.

'Excessive noise however is common matter of uneasiness among some Malaysians because non-Muslims also often practise rituals that cause much discomfort to others (Muslims and non-Muslims alike). Among these are Chinese funeral processions that are often accompanied by drums and cymbals, and other rituals not exclusive to the Chinese.

A local daily, The Star reported that a proposal by Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw to regulate the Azan so that it will not be too loud or disturb non-Muslims caused a stir in the Dewan Rakyat.[49] Muslim MPs accused him of being insensitive and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Mohamad Nazri Abdul Aziz blasted the DAP member for allegedly trying to destroy the multi-religious tolerance in the country.'

I Googled or Wiki'd on 'Chinese funeral procession' and Malaysia came up (above). I assume it's the same-same here though...

Paragraph 2 is ironic... hehehe...

'The funeral procession is normally headed by a band of musicians. The music is meant to frighten away malicious spirits lurking around the funeral site.'

p.s. Apols for the string of mini-posts. The fibre connection has been up and down all morning, and mostly down. So when it's up I have to act fast, rather than say go and edit/add to a previous post...
