Where to eat in Singapore?

Post by Christopherkim76 » Tue, 13 Jan 2015 4:34 pm

Hey everyone,

I have been staying in this country for awhile now, but I only know a few places which offer really delicious and affordable food...

Can anyone recommend me any food haven? Preferably cuisine-style as my tastebuds like to travel alot lol.

Thanks in advance! :)

Regards,
Christopher

If you're talking about dining style food, regulars have talked about it before...

Talk to them about it :)

Best can be defined in so many ways
1. Best food quality
2. Best food quality for price
3. Best overall experience for price
4. Best in it's class of food.

Sashimi
Fishmart Sakauraya - amazing value to quality ratio $30 a head for massive quantities of fresh sushi, gohan uses japanese grain, soba and udon have that "kiu" or al dente bite which is rare outside japan. Tempura is also very decent, which is rare,
Shinji - but lunch starts at $100 and dinner at $250
Akashi is you let the chef do omakase on a budget. The reverse california roll is the best in town, as are their grilled tiger prawns, as well as chawanmushi. Sushi and sashimi are also good.

Bento-sets
Japanese restaurant at bird park hill -sets are awesome and mostly under $15 for homemade sauces! Avoid the abysmal teppanyaki
Botan at Far East Square central (everything there is good, the best family restaurant)
Restaurant Hoshi at IMM is also decent for the price - they actually make the sukiyaki on the spot

Sumi-yaki
Kazu Sumi-yaki at cuppage - about $30 a head, more if with beer. Chicken sashimi is excellent.

Buffet
Ikoi at Miramar $40 a head
Grilled: Shima at good wood, yakiniku for lunch

Ramen
Have not been impressed with any resto in singapore in the past year.

These are my regular-ish joints.

The food here isn't my idea of high quality due to lack of fresh local ingredients. However, for what is available, I suggest reading Lady Iron Chef's blog. He has never steered us wrong whether we wanted zi char or a western steak.

@Kelly88.

Just FYI, I only came upon your post above today, and like what I read about Sakuraya. Both from your comments, but also from then checking reviews on HungryGoWhere.

I x-posted what you wrote in the - Getting to eat 'proper food' again sub-topic, (and added some thoughts to it)...

Looking forward to giving one of their branches a try, as soon as I've figured out the most convenient location of theirs to get to :) Thanks for the tip! :)
