Relocating fr US with HS senior- any Jr Colleges in SG?

Post by jcmik » Sun, 16 Jan 2005 1:59 pm

Originally planned on sending my son to local JC, but with the relo to SG, need to find out if there is a similar college in SG??
And what is the cost and location since he will have to transport himself?

Check into the Overseas Family School, I think they have grade school, high school and a 2 year college as well.

A Junior College in singapore is actually equivalent to year 11 and 12 in US high school. It prepares for the british A levels exam much like the high school cert.

What I think you are looking for is a Polytechnic where you can do a professional course after year 10. It is a 3 year course and you get a diploma after that. If you wish to attend university, many universities overseas such as Australia would let you to do an additional year to get a bachelors (with advanced standing).

Most poly entrants have only year 10 (or O levels). If you have year 12, you can also try overseas universities with singapore campuses.

There are also a lot of private university courses available such as University of london or ones from US. They are held in private premises and can be more expensive.

I think the school fees for polys cost aobut S$4000 a year. A train ride across the country cost about $3 and I bet your son would need less. If he is a fulltime student, he can buy a monthly student pass for around $50 for unlimited rides on all buses and trains.

overseas family school does have a grade 11 and 12 and it even goes on until college if you want.
