Student Pass rejected

Post by jesseyyr » Wed, 07 Jan 2015 4:28 pm

Hi,
I am a Malaysia single mother who just started working in Singapore in Aug'14. I have a 7-year old son who is supposed to start his P1 this year. We managed to get a place for him in P1 after MOE sent him to Sembawang Primary School. I went to school in mid-nov to register him and was asked to apply his student pass through SOLAR+. his application was being rejected on 26/11/14 without any reason stated. i went to ICA HQ personally on 4/12/14 to submit my appeal letter and all the relevant documents which i felt may help. however, as at today, ICA still not able to provide any answer to me whether the appeal is approved or not. i sent them email 3 times, separately on 23/12, 4/1 and today. went to get MP's help to sent them letter as well.... school already started last Friday, and my son still not able to go to school. When i asked them what could be the reason of the rejection, they told me not able to reveal =.=. i am a S-Pass holder, with a reputated company in Singapore, and i have a Singaporean fiance as the local sponsor. i am so lost now, not knowing what to do, as i am not sure if i should continue to wait, or send my son back to Malaysia as their schooling term is to start on 12/1. I really need some advice and if anyone would have know what is the possibility of the rejection. one of the ica office reply said some appeal may take longer time due to complexity of the case. i am not sure how complex it is to decide a YES or No for a 7-year old boy student pass. can anyone help?

thank you so much

"Fiance" is worthless until you are married and also likely until he adopts your son as his own.

What is your monthly salary? My guess is that they are looking at only your income (since you're not married yet) and determining you do not make enough money to support yourself and your son in Singapore.

$3k is not enough to sustain an adult and a kid in Singapore? i am not depending on my fiance as he is playing the role as the local sponsor only. What could be the other possibilities of the rejection?

No, it's actually not. MOM does not issue DPs unless the EP holder is making at least S$4k a month. The whole gov will follow the same guidelines, you likely just won't see it published elsewhere. This is very likely a reason for the rejection of your Student Pass.

Errmmm... That's make some sense now, mayb you are right. But din MOE take that into consideration as well when deciding to give a hope to us? Like u said, whole gov follow the same guidelines. Guess, i will neec to send him back to Malaysia. If it is so, ICA shoyls have just be straight fwd and give me a very direct No. They do not need to be so inconsiderate to drag me up till now still no news while P1 already started a week and he will be missing his 1st day in Malaysia too. Really disappointed with ICA this round... Thanx a lot for giving me some clue :)

Sorry to hear to hear this happened to you, and I agree it does suck. This type of consideration should have taken place earlier in the process or the information about rejection should have been presented in a more straight forward manner. Unfortunately, quite a few people attempt to game the system for passes in Singapore so the government is usually not 100% transparent on criteria considered.

Hi Jessy,

have you son's student pass got approve now?

Actually I'm having the same problem with my nephew's student pass. His pass got rejected on 19 January 2015, immediately we (myself & sister in law) head down to ICA for enquiry. However, the officer did not able to tell the reason so.

when we asked for the appeal procedures, the officer just gave an email address and asked to submit the appeal letter via email. Seen like you have submit a list of document for your appeal action, would you mind to share us the document you have submitted. We planned to follow and hope there is a miracle happen.

God Bless

Hi shi yi,
Too bad that his appeal is still rejected, and the same reason not able to reveal. I submitted my documentation n letter by hand to ica. I spoke to the appeal department, student pass department, no one able to tell me. Their suggestion to me is to re-submit the application. I send in all my details including divorce paper, my company confirmation letter, my son's document. Nothing specific actually, just all that u feel can help in your appeal. Based on the analysis done by some one of sinporean friends, one reason mayb wat is mention by zzm9980, financial, another is sponsor. Mayb u may look into these 2 factors before submitting your appeal n be prepared it will take 6weeks to get the result.
