Addition of an alternate / second name in Singapore Passport

Post by bak_kwa » Mon, 05 Jan 2015 3:27 pm

Hi,

Two days back, I received a notification from the ICA advising me to renew my passport as soon as possible (my current Singapore passport expires in September 2015).

I need advice on whether it is possible to request ICA to include an alternate name while still retaining my original full name as per my birth certificate. This I wish to do before the new passport is issued to me so that the alternate appears on the new passport along with my original name as in my birth certificate.

This alternate name is what i am being called by my workplace colleagues, parents and friends. This is the name that I use even on my credit cards and bank accounts (As is well known some credit card companies specifically ask you in their application forms as to how one may be addressed / their name printed on the credit card). Importantly this alternate name is a shortened version of my actual birth name thus makes it easy to include it on documents testimonials and in any form that it can be used in my daily personal/professional dealings.

Thanks in advance :)

You might have to do a deed poll in order to accomplish that. Register it as an alias. All legal that way.

Thanks Sundaymorningstaple:)

Does this mean that once the Deed Poll is done and subsequently submitted to the ICA will they create an additional entry in my passport stating my alternate name?

I am inquiring on this because it appears that there is no additional space created in the personal particulars page of the passport for an alternate name.

thanks

My wife's name it two lines long as we were originally heading back to the US so she did a deed poll to add an alias, e.g., a US style name, "Mrs. Given Middle Surname". with her Singapore name on the first line. So yes, they will change it, but I don't know the costs of doing so today as we did that 30 years ago.

passports/IDs issued by the singapore government will always have space for two lines worth of names.

if you are chinese, your hanyu pinyin name will be replaced by your @. if you are not, and you do not have an uber long name, your @ will still be on the second line.

no additional charges apply (deed poll/passport fees apply, of course).
