Mobile wallet and in app purchases

Post by Wd40 » Thu, 01 Jan 2015 2:48 pm

I didnt know what mobile wallets were, just learnt about it thanks to my daughter. She was playing a trial game on my windows phone and then accidently bought the app($4.49). I recieved an email saying that the purchase went through and it will be billed to my Singtel postpaid bill :x

I didnt even know such a payment option existed. All this while I was under the impression that since I havent given my credit card/paypal details, there cant be any accidental purchases.

Now did some more research and enabled a PIN on my mobile wallet. Learnt it the hard way, hope this helps someone who doesnt know about this already.

That was close. Good thing it wasn't a pay-per-play item, or you'd be getting $4.49 x n bill!

Anyway how could you say you are unaware that that payment option exists? You must have authorised your mWallet app in your Singtel-supported device at one point of the time. Otherwise it wouldn't have allowed that transaction in the first place.

I don't really remember doing it, from what I read on the internet, it is the default payment method and cannot be disabled.

So is it a Singtel specific app she made the purchase through? No such singtel-billed wallet exists for iOS or Android that I'm aware of.

Windows phone has an app called wallet preinstalled:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-t ... pps/wallet" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-t ... hone-store" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But this app is only for configuration and it already has singtel direct billing as its default payment method and cannot be removed. You can add additional methods like credit cards.

When go to the window store and try to buy an app, by default it uses singtel billing. I guess if I configure other billing methods in the wallet app, then it will allow me to use other payment methods.

http://info.singtel.com/personal/node/2084" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think both ios and google play have equivalents

http://info.singtel.com/node/12987" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It would be an optional install on iOS, and you'd have to open that installed app to use it. (As opposed to being system wide)

I'll chalk this up as a "plus" to apple's walled garden approach.

The App to book sports facilities has got to have the worst mobile wallet in the world (ActiveSports). I'm still waiting for a refund cheque.

I'm wondering if mobile wallet is the same with Google Wallet.
