CAN YOU APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP ?

Post by martincymru » Fri, 05 Dec 2014 4:19 pm

Quote [uk guy to me, 4th Dec 2013, aged 60, PR 15 years ]
"My uk friend on an EP is applying for citizenship, not PR".

Is this possible?

Possible but not probable. The government can do anything they want. They always leave themselves a side door in the event something comes along that they really want/need. However, I think he probably has misunderstood his friend in from the UK.

I thought the PR via GIP program had been shut down a couple years ago? I guess I'll have to check it out (not that I'm qualified or anything, you know!)

Thanks JR8. I read that a few years ago but it would seem they've up the criteria and also pretty much ensured that if you are a working stiff, regardless of how much you earn, unless one already owns a business with at least three years of healthy track record at the levels the are talking about, one is pretty much going to be out of luck. That's probably where I formulated the idea that they abandoned the PR program as it's pretty much unattainable for the likes of anyone on our board or that I deal with. :-(

edited to repair typo!

GR8? That's great, thx! ;)

I agree the hurdles are likely well out of reach to any of us here... at least $50m turnover in the year, and three years preceding your application. $2.5million cash down as some form of bond/deposit, and then the rest.
