i hope this helps some of the forum readers... especially singaporeans with foreign partners.

couples can now figure out their chances of getting an LTVP before marriage - by applying for a Letter of LTVP Eligibility (LLE).

successful applicants will have a shorter LTVP processing times after marriage.

if i'm not wrong, the marriage prep course is refundable (i think 6 months later through some sort of mail-in rebate-type process).

Transnational couples to receive help with visit pass, employment

SINGAPORE — New measures to help prospective transnational couples better plan for their future were announced today (Oct 24) by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF)

In a joint statement, ICA said it will provide “greater clarity, prior to marriage, on whether the foreign spouse can qualify for long term stay in Singapore, based in the circumstances of the couple at the time of application.”

Oh good, we have a couple of new TLAs to add to the hundreds already in place: PTC (prospective transnational couple) and Marriage Preparation Programme (MPP). Plus a nested FLA (i.e. a NF) - Pre-marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA).

7. In addition, a Marriage Support Programme will be introduced to help couples manage cross-cultural differences as they settle down. It will offer conversational language skills to the foreign spouse, and point out avenues to seek job opportunities to help with family finances. Buddies, who are volunteers trained to assist cross-cultural couples, will be present at these programmes to befriend them. All Singaporean-foreigner couples are encouraged to attend these programmes.
