Facilites Management or Office Manager

Post by DalstonCouple » Thu, 16 Oct 2014 4:23 am

Hi all,

London couple here and we might be moving over early next year. I (male) have been offered a job role (advertising) and we're weighing that up.

Now we're looking into what my wife could do.

In the UK she's a Facilities Manager, running a building of over 800 people. She'd be happy to continue that, or some kind of Office Manager role would be good too.

Couple of questions:

1) Are there any recruitment consultants dealing with Facilities Management we could contact?
2) It's quite a male role in the UK - would this be a problem in SG?
3) Which recruitment consultants would you suggest for Office Manager style roles?
4) Any other advice?

Thanks for any help - we really appreciate it.

Best advice I can give you is make sure you can make it on your single income, comfortably. If you cannot, give it a miss. Things are tight here and there are no guarantees you spouse will be able to find a job and even if she finds one there are not guarantees that she will be able to secure an Employment Pass. Therefore, it may take awhile before she can find suitable work (I'm talking 6 months to a year IF at all). OR. She could get lucky, but you cannot move half way around the world basing your premises on her securing employment as well as it's a sure recipe for disaster.

NB: as far as be a male role is concerned, remember that this is Asia and Singapore is basically a patriarchal society..... If she can find something with an MNC that doesn't use a locally headed-up HR department......
