I remember when cell phones were new, there was a device that you could disable a phone in your immediate vicinity, I didn't get one when I could and regret that. Would come in handy for those shouters on the bus or phone-walking-zombies*.

Uber has been known to side step a lot of these regulations and they will continue to do so. I bet they'll be here to stay - and that's a good thing actually. I use Uber cause they don't have the regualar 10% surcharge like the taxis when you pay by card and the fact that you don't have to worry about coins and small change (which is ridiculous for the taxi driver to not have).

There's no way I am getting in car driven by a potential criminal (Uber drivers have been accused of rape already in the USA), uninsured (once again happening in other Uber territories) or where they flout the law (as in Singapore) and leave a passenger without recourse to a regulatory body.

Sure, if you guys feel safer and more comfortable taking a taxi - go ahead. To me, UberX is providing some real competition to the monopoly that the Taxi companies have created and UberExec and UberLarge are just simple ways I can hire a Limo or a 6-seater without making a single call.
