EP Holder; Best time to apply PR ?

Post by martincymru » Wed, 17 Sep 2014 8:28 am

Facts

EP Holder; Contract 2 years
Start 01 Jan 2014
End 31 Dec 2015.

Question

When is best time to apply for PR?

1. Now
2. Just before expiry (say Nov 2015)
3. Just after renewal (say Feb 2016)

Previous EP? If so, probably Jan 2015, otherwise, I'd wait until EP was renewed the first time (e.g. after 2 years). But, if you were not previously on an EP, but want to test the waters, still try Jan 2015 but don't hold your breath. As you know, PR can take anywhere from 2 months to 15~18 months for approval/rejection (either way).

PEP previous? Could be a dodgy situation if you lost it or it expired and you didn't take advantage of it to apply for PR while you had it. It might be a signal to them that you a) weren't really interested in PR before it expired (having not applied while still on the PEP) or b) they might have their druthers if they think the potential earning power or job finding ability has waned. But, from a personal P.O.V., having had the PEP, I'd probably still try in Jan 2015 to at least test the waters.
