EP - Can it be refused if I am infected with Latent TB?

Post by AD1982 » Sun, 14 Sep 2014 5:23 pm

Guys,

I've searched the forums but seem to can't find the answer to my question.

Would my Employment Pass be refused if I am found to have Latent TB following the medical exam?

From what I understand only active TB is screened for using a chest x-ray meaning my question may be irrelavent however given I have never been tested for TB I simply do not know if I am a carrier and subsequently I am a little anxious about my impending medical exam.

Would appreciate your responses

Cheers!

TB is one thing Singapore does try to control - if you have it - probably yes to being kicked out.

AD1982, where are you from?

I suspect if you're a candidate for TB you would have a pretty good idea about that fact.

JR8 - I am from the UK

Ive never shown any TB symptoms and its only when I found out I would be be moving to SIngapore that I looked into TB in detail. I have read up to 1/3 of the worlds population may have Latent TB, most of whom won't even be aware and this got me wondering if I could be in that 33.3%!

I think you should put your mind at rest. TB is a very rare disease in the UK. Before elaborating hugely, did you have the standard and required 'BCG inoculation' when a schoolchild? If so, you're fine.

Some of the population here, esp. from the Subcontinent, and the recently arrived from there, have been exposed to TB. But with your profile and if you're vaccinated (as above) you're fine.

Thanks JR8

Yes, I had the inoculation in my teens and I know this reduces my risk of contracting TB quite significantly. I suppose I am just looking for peace of mind given that my relocation is fast approaching!

Really, do not bother. It's highly unlikely.

Or polio, or... or....
You've got bigger things to think about right now I'm sure. For your visa you'll need a chest x-ray here, it costs about S$8 (IME), and then you're done.
