Their whole lifestyle is funded by 'London taxpayers', who they profess to utterly hate... done for almost solely sentimental reasons, a sense of a united kingdom.

They want to cut that off? It would be regrettable that it's come to this, but why not, it'll only leave me and my family and neighbours richer, and we'll have you whining jocks off our backs, and can laugh at your future shitty socialist attempts to stumble into being a functioning part of the EU.

As a Scot it is a pity I cannot vocalise exactly what's going through my head at the moment but there's a potent smack in the mouth in the post.

Look at the numbers......50:50. You cannot generalise about Scotland wanting to break away OR remain in the Union. This is tearing the country directly in half and is very heated on both sides, ugly (disgracefully so) at times.

Caveat: I am not allowed to vote, as a Scot, with a passport.

Kids of 16yrs are allowed to vote. Prisoners are allowed to vote. Residents of any nationality are allowed to vote ALL a ploy by the SNP to find their maximum voter base AND YET they still cannot claim to lead the numbers.

Personally I can't figure out how anybody would vote for Independence without even knowing something as basic as what currency to use. It's a pretty fundamental aspect of how a country is to be run and yet this has no clear answer, unlike "Yes, we'll scrap the bedroom tax." Oh, woohoo, like that's something to end a centuries old Union.

For me and my son, we have to wonder what options will be available for citizenship once this is all done and dusted. As an Expat abroad without even a right to vote, I am having to accept a decision from others that has a potential to really screw me over. Justice? There is none! I'm not a Sir Sean living in the lap of luxury closer to the grave than the maternity ward so for myself and thousands like me the next week (at best) or 24-months (at worst) is going to throw up more problems than it solves.

The vote hasn't even happened yet and already the Scots are reaping what they sow...

-----------------------------
'Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group are both drawing up plans to move their headquarters south of the border, it emerged last night. Having previously been supremely coy on the matter, the banks say they have seen such a level of concern from customers that they are compelled to confirm what many analysts have said for a while - there are so many unknowns around what an independent Scotland would look like that it just makes sense to move south.

RBS's statement on the matter, released this morning, says moving south is "the most effective way to provide clarity to all our stakeholders and mitigate the risks". Lloyds, meanwhile, says: "We have contingency plans which include the establishment of new legal entities in England". '

I don't want to see it happen.

But I find it odd that when you meet people from the UK only English people call themselves British. Their education is different, nhs, laws etc. they don't feel a connection to Westminster.

Let's be honest, most people don't care if Scotland votes to separate.

I couldn't care about the politics/sideshow etc., just get it over, and let us watch the festering.

Enough of the 'world domination' self indulgence crap eh? Who tha feck yeh thank yer are?

I tend to say I am from UK as this usually a place folk have heard. I would then get asked if I am English and I would say yes, then asked if I am from London. Sadly Yorkshire really hasnt made it into the mainstream of geographical knowledge.

Feeling no connection to Westminster is not the birthright of the Scots, its the same for any group who have a Government in power not doing what they want.

Still not sure what the point of the SNP will be after the vote if its a yes vote.

At least all the Scottish Govts will get to blame the English for all their ills though , I am sure that wont be part of the independence deal

Neither do I. I see the whole exercise as by and for the benefit of politicians.

I'm reminded of the 'sell story' on the UK joining the EU (then the EEC). It focused almost completely and solely on how 'open borders' would make going on holiday to Europe easier. Nothing else, not a whisper about an EU parliament, flag, currency, laws, etc*1000. It was a knowing con and a stitch-up.

And I feel that the Scottish politicians are doing the same to the Scottish people. Selling it to the people on a couple of token virtues, with nary ah whaesper [not a whisper lol] as to how lavishly bedecked with golden feathers the politicians nests will become.

The Welsh and Scots felt a connection to Westminster, until their respective nationalists forced the creation of parallel domestic parliaments. You simply have to follow the money.

p.s. @Scoobydoes. My earlier post was a pastiche of the stereotypes at play. No offence intended!

I think Mr Salmond already has previous for having his snout in the trough as well.

You are correct, although maybe I am reading the wrong websites, but there doesnt appear to be a lot of discussion other nationalist rhetoric.

Not many plans put forth , just a lot of hope and crossing of fingers by the look of things.

Should dig out LKY from retirement and send him to Scotland as an "advisor" lol who knows in 50 year Scotland may become the financial center of Europe, people apparently trust financial advice if you have a Scottish accent.

Casinos open up, instead of Oil and Gas they focus on green energy design/ production and manufacturing. People from the sub continent will be clamoring for Scottish PR. 80 percent of the population will live in Government housing.

If Hong Kong is going to the dog, Scotland should invite all the HK citizens to set up shop there. Give them a barren island and see what they can do with it.

It would be useful for the Scots to have a document laying out what the consequences and changes are foreseen to be, say, ten years hence. Things like perhaps needing a visa to visit England, having a worthless currency, etc.

Instead the path is an intentionally obscured and falsely emotive one (smoke and mirrors), so of course they're not going to volunteer the plans and consequences.

@Ecu, yep, half of Africa trying to get get into the UK. Same as all the immigrants literally dying to get into Australia.

@QRM. Lol! It's a bizarrely upside down world where people instinctively trust a person with a regional accent over anything neutral or god-forbid 'posh', but such is the state of things in UK society.

The irony is that better off people in the regions often don't have any accent at all. So it's akin to a situation where 'people' trust advice given by poor people, rather than better off or wealthy ones. Imagine it, trusting an unsuccessful estate agent/realtor more than a star performer.... perverse.

Genuine lol at your other genius thoughts...

Some of the points about the mindset up north are a little over the top.

If you've been up over the border recently, you'll have seen that some towns have been completely ruined by the withdrawal of heavy industry. In these places, I'm not surprised that there's a big Yes vote - the people can be forgiven for thinking that an independent Scotland can hardly be much worse for them.

What's concerning is the 1 in 10 or 1 in 5 that have been swayed to vote Yes in recent months. I was reading comments yesterday along the lines of "who do RBS think they are to tell us that they're going to move jobs south, this has swung me to vote Yes". The same thing happens when the Westminster politicians say that the UK won't enter into a currency union, or when people point out that it will be very hard for Scotland to get back into the EU, or whenever anyone points out that there is no particular reason for the folks outside of Scotland to give an independent Scotland a free ride.

It would be funny if it weren't so serious.
