Somehow the existence of this place crossed my radar, I think I was looking for quality JPnese food, that's not at the often $$$ prices you tend to find associated with it.

I wonder if anyone has tried it: 'Tanuki Raw', at Orchard Central. Granted it's JPnese fusion, or JPnese orientated, rather than 'pure classical JPnese cooking'.

Sounds like JPnese food with the twist of an American diner. Could be interesting?

You can also see the menu from their website. For example click on the 'Lunch menu', (which does not highlight as you'd expect a link to). 'Truffle yakiniku don' at $14.80... sounds like quite a deal for those ingredients at that location :-k http://tanukibar.com/lunch/

There is a relatively new, relatively reasonably-priced and authentic Japanese place in the Robinson Walk area, across from Da Mario Pizza (which is quite good).

The menu is a bit lacking but at least there are Japanese staff so the food is the real thing.
