I've just arrived in SG and have been house hunting

I've been looking for conservation house / shophouse property to rent (max budget 4k, prefer 750sqft or even 1000sqft++)

Any advice? Is anyone here looking for the same thing? Is it worth getting a housemate to rent a bigger unit (1500sqft++) in fancy areas for ~6-8k?
