What is going on under my block? :???:

Its my HDB void deck, where usually marriages take place.
There are lot of tables and people have gathered. A guy is screaming on the top of his voice using loudspeaker, is addressing them. The people are all drinking beer and beer ladies are serving them. The dude screaming on the loudspeaker looks like he is auctioning hard liquor, I cant understand the language, but I am sure I heard him saying "Johnny walker black label" :???:

I guess you are right. Its already 10:30PM and the dude is still screaming on the loudspeaker and whole neighbourhood can hear it, not just the small crowd he is addressing. Is it just a one day thing?

Nah, can go on for several nights, depending on how many sponsors/donations they receive. Enjoy yourself. Don't just sit upstairs and fret. Go down and join the festivities and see the mind boggling prices some of the things sell for. Will remind you that all those crying poormouth aren't as poor as you think.

You are lucky that its only for a month, I've got to deal with some hare Krishna group who are renting a few floors upstairs and they every once in a while its all singing, clapping and some drums.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Play some bass-heavy metal music (you know, those that either drop D or have >5 string bass guitars), stick the speakers to the walls for maximum sound conduction.

There was a scream festival at the HDB block next door to us as well. Do they really need to do it at the maximum volume the speakers will allow?

if you have attended Chinese charity dinners with auctions, you will know it is normal to scream at the top of the lungs to ensure all are listening, especially those from PRC believe it is the norm even when using a mic to speak....

years ago, I was in a Jaycees meeting and our visitors from Taiwan spoke a few words in English and requested if they can speak in Mandarin, permission granted and the volume of the speaker shot up when he went on to speak in Mandarin

mercifully it wasn't long ....
