The small neighborhood bakeries don't worry about licensing but the quality is not guaranteed.

Or you could request a red and gold cake (Ironman's colors) and just put a small action figure as a cake topper.

Even if you can find a bakery that would do it, there's the issue of hauling it home in this heat and keeping it from getting ruined in the car.

Some people on this forum might think I'm crazy for saying this......but my advice would be to bake the cake (or cupcakes) yourself and get characters to put on top. No, it won't look as good as a professional, but it'll probably taste better than any cake you'll get from a bakery in Singapore. Most local bakeries don't use enough sugar, in my opinion.

Get a box of whatever brand/flavor cake mix you like (being from the USA, I'm partial to Betty Crocker and that brand is sold throughout Sg) and prepare according to instructions. For icing, you can either get a jar of white icing and add food coloring or make your own icing.

I typically use an icing recipe like this one and add food coloring of choice:

Powdered sugar is the same as icing sugar or confectioners sugar. Buy extra icing sugar just in case you run out. Don't use granulated/castor sugar for icing.

This is what we did for our son (not the ironman but a highly customized design)
1) we got (made) a generic, white top cake
2) ordered a custom designed printed topper on edible paper (aka rice paper, printing ink should be also edible) - I got one from Ebay. An example: http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Personalised ... 461c51921b

Turned out very nice.

Got a photo? I'm curious about the overall look using that.

We celebrated our daughter's birthday last week and it was Madagascar themed. She is obsessed with that movie and the song "move it move it" which is the only song that has been playing in my house for a while now.(Don't get me started on that  )

Anyway a friend recommended Aunty Yochana (google it for contact) and the cake was fantastic. I have attached a pic. The attention to detail was amazing. Everything you see.. the figurines, bushes etc., on that cake are edible (Not the candle :) ) . The only downside is she does this from home and you have to pick up the cake from Serangoon Gardens. Cost us $270 excl transportation.

@whoisit: WOWWWOWWW! very impressive!!!! I'm sure your child went crazy over it! (I know I would!) But serangoon garden is abit too far from us..

@nakatago: i like your idea. will try to get some quotes on that. hoping that it will be cheaper since it doesn't require much detail.

Swensens has licensed cakes

https://shop.swensens.com.sg/product-ca ... es/marvel/

disney https://shop.swensens.com.sg/product-ca ... kes/disney

nickeloden https://shop.swensens.com.sg/product-ca ... ickelodeon

star wars https://shop.swensens.com.sg/product-ca ... star-wars/

They're all ice cream cakes and the cakes take a while to defrost before cutting otherwise it's impossible to cut it.

Quality has gone way down in recent years, can no longer recommend them. On another note, they have a pretty good impossible burger.

If you want a more fancy option, you can always contact one of the home bakers that are all the rage since CB and they will make you a custom cake to your specifications, alternatively if you want a more budget friendly option, Prima surprisingly does some pretty good cakes. Most of them are fresh cream based, and the cakes themselves are pretty light and fluffy. I would place them on the higher end of HDB style cakes.
