how about anything i should be wary of ..say.. things that go bump in the night? .. i'm living all by myself .. eek!
Don't look, Don't say a word, Don't point, Don't think, basically, just Don't for everything and anything that you deem suspicious.

and since you are living alone, if you happen to hear someone calling your name in the middle of night...just Don't answer. BOOOO!

Amuses me these people who grew up in 10 year old condo/flats who imagine they're haunted.

I grew up in a 400 year old rural coaching-inn, that (even to a cynic like me) perhaps WAS haunted.

Bwa ha ha!!

It is better to believe than to disbelieve. in doing, you bring everything to the realm of possibility.

All I recall happening is the condo activating a miniature burn barrel for trash.

But seriously, the whole "ghost" thing for me went unrecognized.

For burning 'offerings', banknotes, Rolex, LV handbags and Mercedes.... that despite you burning them... they kinda magically get warped to another dimension... and get presumably unburnt and given to your er... deceased ancestors, like UPS for an afterlife.

Don't forget iphones....

...I'd hate to see the roaming charges on afterlife plans. Do they get 4G coverage in the Netherealm?

From the outsiders perspective you will only see the burning papers in the public places. From the insiders.. will greatly depend on the person. Most commonly you will see not much more than the burning papers. All the customs and rituals I always learned preparing on various local occasions typically ended up the locals did not follow anything from it strict, or not follow at all. Some of them were even surprised it was (supposedly) from their culture.

Should get someone to take you to one of the neighbourhood 7th-month celebrations, toss back a few beers, bid for some lucky items, maybe even see a wayang or some getai.

I'm surprised no one has brought up all the tons of food you will see set out for offerings everywhere. All the hawker centres and temples will have several tables set out with food for these ghosts (and rats and flies) to enjoy.

It'll be difficult with the Netherealm have someone doing this: http://youtu.be/130-Rhcx9jg?t=8m8s

I'm a strong advocate of this phrase, "You are affected by what you believe."

Just don't be rude and announce your cynicism to someone who really CARES about it.
