There must certainly be a lot of event management and set-up companies locally given the size of the MICE market here and nearby. If you are prepared to work on local terms you'll have a shot but it'll only be for giving you something to do and pay some expenses.

That being said, and I take this all on board big time but it leaves me wondering, what hell should I do, not working is not an option. Do I try anyway or do I look elsewhere (where?).

slimbalato, please don't take this the wrong way; I'm not trying to be judgmental here, but the above comments worry me. Are you saying that for financial reasons you have to find a job in order for you and your wife to survive long-term in Singapore? If so, this could be tricky and the general advice is to ensure that you can live decently on the salary and benefits of the person who is getting the EP, before making the decision to move to Singapore.

Maybe that is actually the case here, but I also mention this for others who may read this thread in future - assuming that the trailing spouse will find a job is a risky strategy in the current (and foreseeable future) anti-foreigner climate in Singapore.

Having said the above, and not disagreeing with the excellent advice you've already been given (including from people like Strong Eagle who have 'walked the walk')... one option you might want to look into is the possibility of setting yourself up as a sole proprietor and doing some consultancy and/or contracting work. Obviously it's not a foregone conclusion that you'd succeed with the required SP & LoC applications, or that there'd be work of this type available, but i thought I'd I'd mention it as something you might want to consider.

There are a bunch of event companies ranging from small to large. They all pay poorly and have high turnover... I used to run the American Association's Music in the Park... it was rare to have the same personnel each year.

You might contact AAS, and perhaps Am Cham... both put on events and could direct you to the companies they use.

With apologies for resurrecting an old thread, did you ever have any luck with this Slimbalato? One of my wife's friends is likely to be in a similar position out here.
