Real Estate Development Jobs and Salary

Post by courboy » Mon, 14 Jul 2014 5:11 am

Hi all,

I am looking to move to Singapore to be with the girl of my dreams. Distance has always been the issue for us (she moved there 4 years ago from London) and one of us needs to move so we can be together.

I currently work in commercial property development (industrial and office sectors mainly) and wondered what are the chances of me finding similar work in Singapore? My concern is most property jobs seem to be management or agency, which just isn't of interest to me.

In terms of package, I am 29 and currently earning £85,000 basic with bonuses of c.£30,000. I have a BA in Business Finance, masters in Real Estate Finance and an MRICS professional qualification if that helps.

I guess my questions are:

1. Is this package comparable with Singapore and;
2. Do these jobs exist over there?

I would also consider working at a REIT or investment fund but don't know how likely I am to get a job like that with a mainly development focussed background (although I did work at a hedge fund trading credit derivatives before I moved into property).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :)

Real estate development is tightly controlled by the government which owns the majority of open tracts. There are just a handful of large real estate development companies, with the majority of them having connection to the government investment company, Temasek.

Without evidence I'd guess this would be a tough nut to crack. Were it I, i'd be looking at the for sale ads, especially for condo developments, in order to identify the companies, then contact them directly or use LinkedIn to track down people you can talk to.

Thanks for the response, I guess that makes sense why jobs are not easy to come by then. I will look into the recruitment companies based in the UK who specialise in the asian markets too and see if there´s anything worth exploring there.

Presumably on the investment side, there are real estate funds based in Singapore who invest in the rest of Asia?

Just as a quick update, I visited Singapore for the first time this weekend and absolutely loved it.

I am now actively seeking employment over there for 2-3 months time however, am really concerned about the lack of real estate jobs over there.

My skills are mainly in real estate development and financial modelling; is anybody able to give any advice on what my chances are of finding a job with a similar remuneration package to my current one in London?

Thanks
