The racism b/w developed countries and Singapore is different.

In developed countries, there are certain bad elements who will make racial attacks. But majority of the people are very friendly and have genuine racial tolerance. If are in the wrong places at wrong times, yes chances are you might get attacked. But on a regular basis people of trains, buses etc smile at you, talk with you and dont treat you like an alien.

In Singapore, the bad elements have been controlled so much that they cannot do anything. But even the general public at large dont seem to have a big liking for foreigners and majority think that all problems to them are caused by foreigners and you get that feeling whereever you go in Singapore. Its become us v/s them

Its slowly starting to become a "us v/s them". I had this experience last week. I went to buy broadband connection from starhub and they identical price for 100mbps cable broadband and 100mbps fibre. I know fibre upload speeds are much much higher than cable upload speeds, but thats something I dont care so much.

Then I asked the lady, who was a nice Filipino in the customer service, about if there is any difference in termination charges b/w the 2 and the difference is huge. Fibre broadband termination in less than 1 yr you need to pay another $350 extra and also if you relocate to another house you need to pay $200.
I instantly chose the cable broadband. To this the Filipino lady agreed whole heartedly. She responded "We as foreigners keep changing houses and yes your decision is right to go with the cable broadband"

Should have just gone with a proper fiber provider like My Republic or viewQuest and picked a non-contract plan.

Price! I got the 100mbps 2 yr contract with starhub @ $39.90 per month and 1st 6 months free, so effectively it is $29.90 per month over the 2 yr period.

The last I saw MyRepublic 24 month contract starts from $50 per month, I can only imagine no contract would be even more expensive, if there is one.

I first lived here 20 years ago. I am not sure if the scale of any issue of racism is down to bare facts, or my circumstances.

First stint I was putting in a typical 12hr day. Too busy to notice anything that wasn't core to my day, or end of week RnR. A larger issue that did cross the radar was the paranoia of the government, censorship, inability to express opinions etc. I was aware of HDB quotas etc.

I don't think anyone is saying that racism doesn't happen elsewhere. The difference is it is against the law in many developed countries so there are avenues for legal recourse when it does happen.
