Employment Pass Cancelaltion

Post by tman » Mon, 09 Jun 2014 1:54 pm

hi,

I have an employment pass from a company in singapore but due to personal reasons I will not be joining there. The company is now saying that they will cancel the EP and all my future prospects of getting another EP from another company will be NIL. Is this the case for an EP?

No. Not necessarily.

Apologies. what I meant to ask was under what conditions(if you know any) would getting another EP be doubtful?

You're trying to second guess the MOM here and there's no point - every EP application is assessed on its own merit and the criteria they use are not publicly available (for good reason). What SMS is trying to tell you is that your previous EP history will come up in any future application, but to what extent this might affect the outcome would not be known.

Clearly the employer whose job offer you previously accepted are pee'd off (and so would I be, frankly speaking) that after going to the expense of applying for and obtaining an EP for you, you are now pulling out of the deal. Now all the time and money spent recruiting you has been wasted and they have to go through the process again. The other factor to consider is what would a future prospective employer think when they found out that you previously had a job and EP lined up but pulled out at the last minute?

I don't know your circumstances so I'm not trying to be judgmental; just looking at it from an employer's and MOM's point of view.
Be careful what you wish for

I'd say the company is threatening you!

But then again your next EP is based on luck. You see, different officers look into different EP application forms. Whilst you may fulfill all the criteria the approving officer in your EP application may decide otherwise, based on his discretion.

Your best bet is to just give it a shot
