Transferring Mobile Contract

Post by Lara Deeza » Fri, 06 Jun 2014 3:30 pm

Hi there! I'm looking to transfer my mobile contract with Starhub as I am leaving the country in June but my contract doesn't expire until February 2015.

Have any of you done this before (transfer to or from someone)? Is the process fairly straightforward? How did you find someone to take it over? Thanks!

I've done it before. Unless the procedure has changed from the last time I did it, it should be straightforward.

You need the following documents:
1. NRIC/EP for yourself and the new owner
2. Proof of billing address of the new owner
3. One-time transfer fee of SGD21.40
4. Both of you must be present at any Starhub Service Centre (or at least the new owner with an authorisation letter from you)

The real fact is that it is hard to find a stranger who is willing to take over your contract. Much easier to find someone you know.

Another way to look at it is to continually pay until the contract expires. Compare the total amount you need to pay against the termination fees. If the termination fee is cheaper, you might as well terminate it.
