Well after a couple of Mega-Casinos were just approved for the Auzie Gold Coast, and with Thailand building a new one (from memory) everybody is trying to grab a slice of the mega-bucks that need, um, 'cleaned.'

Sex tourists does not visit Thailand. They visit 3 redlight districts in Bangkok, the city centre of the filthy Pattaya and Bangla Road in Phuket. The widespread idea that there are sex tourists and girls readily available everywhere in Thailand is wrong. I lived there and I really hate the sex industry - however the general perception that it is everywhere in Thailand is just plain wrong!the lynx wrote:Why astonished? With Thailand being the unfortunate destination for sex tourism, anything else could go there. Shame for such beautiful country and nice people though.PNGMK wrote:Evil things. I'd have to disagree with this one. Even in the hometown of the King's summer palace, there is a small but thriving sex trade.Fortan wrote:Sex tourists does not visit Thailand. There is in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and Ubon as well. This doesn't differ from any other country in the world, where the same is present in as good as all cities. What differs is the main areas I mentioned. Go to Sydney to Kings Cross or Amsterdam and there are big redlight districts in both those cities. Here it is OT and Geylang, which are not far off Soi Cowboy in Bangkok. Still Thailand has been branded as a sexpat/sex tourist destination. I don't get it - why is it worse in people's eyes in Thailand than it is everywhere else?Strong Eagle wrote:

Trust me, I also hate the sex industry there that really defiles the beautiful country and lovely people. I have been to many parts of Thailand outside of the 'touristy' ones and I can still see the essence of it, both the right-in-your-face ads and the subtle special-masseurs type. The saddest part is that even the children were inoculated with idea that they can help poor family through sex trade.Fortan wrote:Sex tourists does not visit Thailand. There was once I volunteered teaching in village outside Satun and on my first morning, I was surprised that the boys in my class turned up with face powder and lipstick, even more made-up than the girls. I asked my local guide what it was all about. She explained that these children were from very poor families and that they firmly believed that the only way out of poverty was by being women. They'd envisioned themselves to drop out of school as early as they can, earn some cash, get mini sex-change and go to the towns (Hatyai, Songkhla or Satun) or even bigger tourist destinations (Pattaya, Bangkok etc) where they can make more money through sex trade. As they earn more, they would undergo more or better sex-change procedures and ultimately become beautiful, which could pave a way for them to become a star performer (or something of that sort) and make even more money to support their families back home.
Sad, very sad. And also a huge digress from this casino topic. But I guess I made my point clear.
