Post by littlemissshally » Sun, 25 May 2014 9:53 am

Planning to go Greece for a fews days only though. I heard it's cheaper than any other european countries.

but i dont know which place or hotel to stay, basically my itinerary would be athens-mykonos-santorini.

if anyone been there before a little help goes a loooooong way!

I just got back from Santorini and its gorgeous. There are many china tourists and the usual wedding couple taking photos with the scenery as backdrop. Personally, I find Santorini is very beautiful and romantic, and I would think it is more suitable for couples. Its a very relaxed and chilled place.

We were in Istanbul before Santorini, and in comparison, I find Istanbul more expensive than Santorini. However, I won't say it is cheap, because it is a tourist attraction. In Santorini, its extremely difficult to get a taxi. There is public bus but I am not sure how easy is it to get around via the bus. Most people ride a motorbike (need license) or drive a car. Its ok to walk within the town but from town to town, the distance is quite far.

Is this your first trip to Europe? What do you like to see or what do you want to achieve in this trip? Sight seeing? Museums? Shopping? Relax on beach? Party? Wine tasting?

Yes it's my first trip to Europe, I'm into sight seeing and the architecture culture and cuisine! A little shopping probably like souvenirs. Party would be interesting thing to inject on my agenda, and wine tasting? sure!

so how did you walk about santorini if it's difficult to take a cab? I'm curious about the type of transportation though...

My husband rented a car but there are many people riding ATV in Santorini. If you plan to drive, do get a small car because the roads are narrow. There are a lot of cruise ships docking in the harbor and there are numerous huge tour bus which you would want to be able to get around it.

If it is your first trip to Europe and you are into sight seeing, architecture, culture and cuisine, I think Paris will be a good start. You can get around by train easily, alone. There are ample of museums and food is great. My favorite European city is Barcelona, for the food and amazing architecture. Similarly, you can get around by public transport or rent a bicycle if you like to take it slow and easy. Both places are possible to get around without knowing the local language. Of course, knowing a few basic phases won't hurt either.

Agreed with Girl_next_door, Santorini is gorgeous, we went to Athens, Meteora and Santorini. We rented a Smart car at the airport in Santorini. Rental rate is quite reasonable. It costs around EUR 45/day. Well, it’s a small island, bus is the only public transportation. Personally, having a rental car or ATV is more convenience. PM me if you‘d like to have our itinerary for reference :)
