Join a running group? I run at botanic gardens every tuesday morning at 6.30am. Good to kick start your day with some exercise. Everyone is welcome :)

There are some obstacle race training. I know of East Coast, Pearl's Hill, Choa Chu Kang. Different from the usual run or gym workouts.

Yea MMA has been the hype nowadays.
Great way to keep fit and also learn some self defense (not that you need it in sg...)

It's really sad news. He's a 2nd degree friend of mine. Stepped in to protect a drunk girl from other drunkards and ended up losing his life. RIP :(

You will NOT learn self-defense from MMA. Modern MMA has become a sport and with it rules. Those rules don't apply in the street.

A fight in the street is nasty, dirty and leagues more chaotic than an MMA fight. You will have multiple opponents and they will hit you from behind when they get the chance. They'll target you in spots that are illegal to hit in an MMA match.

Learn MMA if you like it but don't be under the delusion that you can use it in a street fight. Learn it like you would, say, basketball. It gives you exercise, you enjoy doing it but the skills you will gain will only be tangentially useful outside its realm.

At home, anyway, my response about someone claiming to know one martial art or another, is I only know Smith & Wesson and I don't even have to get close to you.

I know martial arts and when someone realizes I do, they ask me how to defend themselves. Here's what I always tell people:

1. plead
2. if that doesn't work, run
3. if they catch you, see #1.

That said, running is always a good way to be fit, not to mention a self-defense technique.

If choreographed correctly, a gun fight can still look "graceful":

And how brutal a fight can be can still be cinematic:

Hee horse riding is really expensive in SG, better off trying that in Johor.

I think the usual ones will be running, swimming, cycling, racquet sports like tennis, badminton, fitness classes such as kickboxing, boot camps etc, rockclimbing.

Water sports - canoeing, dragon boating, windsurfing

If you dun mind learning dance, try salsa, ballroom dancing, hip hop, zumba etc.
