Spam Calls; Singtel refuse to block

Post by martincymru » Mon, 12 May 2014 8:49 am

Getting calls, perhaps 2 per day for last 3 days, from +92 Pakistan.
Singtel refuse to block.

Any advice how to resolve.

I was recently getting +371/375 'one-ring' calls to my mobile from Latvia for about a week. I reported the problem to ST and they were evidently very aware of the wider issue.

I just didn't answer calls from those numbers, and they dried up. Similarly I don't answer calls that don't display the number unless I know for sure who it's likely to be, and I'm expecting that call. If needs be a 'Missed' friend can always SMS be in such circumstances.

Thanks JR8.

I am amazed that Singtel take a "your problem mate" attitude.

There must be thousands of their customers affected.

Oh no, it wasn't 'your problem not ours'. They took my report, but I could tell that it was an issue familiar to them.

What can they do, block all calls from Latvia? Don't think so.

Anyway, they've stopped for now.

You don't have a 'Block Number' function on your mobile? It's a place to start and take some matters into your own hands whilst waiting for the Telco to do something.

This happens to me as well, I'm on the M1 network, everyday between 5-6pm my land line rings, and someone from India is trying to sell me a cheap VoIP calling solution that I don't want and I've told them this repeatedly. So after a while I answer the phone and leave it near the tv and walk away.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

It's not like it bothers me sufficiently to dig out if such a function exists. Also if won't help if the number keeps changing. I'm reporting it more so that ST can take a record of it, gauge the size of the overall issue, and so perhaps I have some form of comeback if I somehow get scammed into a call in future. [??]

Had another call from a private number this pm, at 6.30pm. Not expecting any such calls, so simply ignored it. I wonder if a call from say Latvia that came via a switchboard would come up 'Private number ?

I've just had a 'one ring call' (well it rang maybe 3 times) from a +252 number.

Thought it might be one of the Baltic Republics. Nope, Somalia! :o

'Oh, I better ring them back just in case it's someone I know'

p.s This week also a couple of calls from 741520, and +658017. The latter appears local (but then why the +65 prefix?), and was a recording of a women speaking in Mandarin...

Now I'm getting spam SMSs...

+6587275379
<adv> Home Tuition Teachers ... 'visit http://www.starzesttuitionagency.com.sg to apply for tuition jobs or call 63845607'.

+6590614708
Cherry Education... 'Call 66525453 to join our pool of tutors'

.... when I have a moment I'll send them a salvo of anonymous spams back; calling them is always fun too

p.s. not sure why the URL above underlines the rest of the sentence... ?
