Brunei implementing sharia laws
Brunei implementing sharia laws
Just read an article about the 3 step implementation of the sharia laws in Brunei. Step 3 includes death penalty for consensual gay sex. Step 1 flogging for not taking part in Friday prayer.
One step backwards for one man, a giant step backwards for mankind.

It is rather unfortunate when things like this occur.
I guess whilst Brunei still has the oil and can throw money about then this kind of thing is quite easy to implement.
Maybe he is preparing for the oil money to run out so getting the laws in place early.
I was in Malaysia at the weekend, in one of the daily papers it had an article that one of the states in Malaysia is wishing to implement something like this also.

Life is short, paddle harder!!
The story I get from my BSP contacts is that the Sultan is ill... and he does look noticeably off peak in recent pictures.... enough to make me wonder whether he has a nasty vice related disease. Regardless my contacts believe he is 'getting close to Allah/God' as a result.
As for the oil money there are some real difficulties - the Sultan won't or is reluctant to stump up 50% for the needed development work offshore and as a result the production is noticeably declining. There's rumors now that Shell may divest.

Before I moved back to Singapore, I used to stay at Royal Plaza on Scotts and have since recommended other friends and colleagues to use the hotel. I will now be telling them to stay clear of that hotel, as it is owned by the sultan. I just cannot support anything that has anything to do with that regime.

I wonder if this will have any effect on Brunei's current relationship with Singapore.
Overall there are lots of places we should probably be boycotting, including any business, services or products from those nations. People go to Dubai yet the first thing that happens when a woman reports rape is that she gets locked up in prison. Need I mention Russian vodka?
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

Interesting revelation. Not sure if it is true though.
