Thanks for that, from the comments, the usual displays of low Emotional Intelligence are always very entertaining:

"Nobody in his native country but become somebody in Singapore. Puih! Even their country don't want them so they came here." (where do they get this stuff?)

"he must be dealt with seriously...."

"Ang mor dog ! Go back to your freak country"

"kill him!"

as is the mangled English:

"These are the "so call" foreign talents"

"It's cause people who encounter these issues and not report it that they escape punishment..."

"he must be kicked out of Channel NewsAsia Singapore and ban him for re-entry!"

"Ft! Thy think thy r so great! Many of thm started showing their ugly truth of where thy cone from."

"SO HIGH AND MIGHTY BUT CAN ONLY AFFORD A freak SCOOTER"

That silly "FT" term is apparently still in use.

Surprisingly, there are a few posts in the voice of reason:

"The driver more likely had aggravated the motorcyclist resulting in such confrontation. Don't use such videos to stir emotion on small percentage of Singaporeans who are xenophobic."

"wheres ur sound? u mute because u horn at him nonstop? horning nonstop is as rude as a middle finger. suck it up"

So maybe there is some hope for these.

I was surprised that people post such things using their facebook accounts, so it is not anonymous like the TRE comments. They are doing this openly for all their friends, colleagues, bosses and everyone to see.

Frankly, I'm surprised that there are FT still here who are stupid enough to actually do these kinds of things. I would think, if they DID have any brains, they would learn to keep their fingers to themselves under the current climate. He is asking for it, and if he gets it, it is rightly deserved. Doesn't show me too much talent, or should I say, only talent for being a stupid jerk.

I hope, if he's guilty, he gets his just desserts. Sadly, "when in Rome" doesn't work too well here.

He did it in the heat of the moment. Already caught in an awkward situation trying to take the short cut, to avoid ERP. Then this dude behind honks at him.

If the Singaporean driver behind showed little compassion and waited for couple of mins, this wouldn't have become news. But the fact that he took the video and shared it to the public, tells what kind of a sad life he is.

I would still say the scooter guy should have kept his thoughts to himself

took video? the video seems to be from an in car cam ...

the volunteer place I drive has this new additional reminder ...don't be an idiot while driving our vehicle because .... a lot of cars have in car cameras and we don't want too see our vehicle flashed on stomp or anywhere ....

I can see the advantages of giving up driving/riding now. You suddenly eliminate a whole plethora of offenses that you could commit if you are not careful, like drinking driving, killing someone or other offenses like the one committed in the video and in this country committing offenses is the worst thing to do.

So all FTs present and future, if you are a volatile person or someone who cant have much of self restraint or someone who likes taking short cuts in life, don't get on the road!

Driving here...is enough to make one truly crazy some days. The never-ending idiotic behaviour and lack of driving skills. So I can see how people just go off some days even when they're in the wrong. There are many days when I'm afraid I will do it as I get so f-ing sick of how very stupid people are on the roads.

I have yet to give anyone the finger but I have started honked at the stupider/and more dangerous things...ie refusing to let people merge even when the merge lane has ended....cut people off from behind when you can see they're about to change lanes...and on and on.

All those things you listed are why I never wanted a car here.

I'm still amazed at how bad the driving is and poor judgement used, like honking at people for turning legitimately, stopping without using flashers, stopping but sticking far out in traffic, slowing down to check things in the middle of the flow of traffic, drifting into other lanes of traffic, tailgating, and on any given night, a number of cars without their lights on.

It would make me a very stressed person to drive in that.

Have you heard the one (or was it someone here who posted this) about the taxi driver, while tailgating on a highway, rationalized that it is safer to tailgate than be a few car lengths behind, because in event of an accident, the impact would be less?

10:1 the car driver was doing something equally idiotic. The video doesn't show what he was doing before the incident and the lack of sound is suspicious.

ERP's are a damn bloody nuisance on a bike because you cannot leave you ERP card in without risking it being pinched and you always forget to put it in until you see an ERP gantry - I am not skilled enough to put mine in one handed and keep riding and have stopped at ERP gantries as well - I have a suspicion that's why the scooter was stopped (he had stopped and inserted the card).

However as a bike rider - I would not do what that chap did (get off and confront the car driver) - it's usually my goal to get away from cars... and the idiots that drive them.

They did a real number on him on TRS and he's probably going to end up pulling an Anton Casey, but I reckon he had it coming. Really now.

By the way, I don't drive here, so I don't know how much of the bad-driving tales are true, but credit where credit is due on that clip with that infant scrambling onto the road out of nowhere in near-darkness. Both drivers come to a standstill, with some room to spare no less. Even with the benefit of replay, it's still real tough to see the littl'un before he's on the road.

Well done to those 2 drivers.

Edit: typo.

Rants about drivers here notwithstanding, this scooter guy made two irreversible errors, one to stop there, even for a moment, and two not having the good sense to refrain from doing something like that when the possibility of being recorded is high and when there is already a lot of focus on foreigners just waiting for someone to trip up.

And having said that, it's all a bit Orwellian this world we live in nowadays.

Agreed. We won't know how close the car was to the scooter and no sound=don't know everything but the scooter guy was a complete moron. I ride a motorcycle and believe most taxi drivers consider me the enemy. I still wouldn't confront them as it's not the right thing to do and I have better things to do than become the next Anton Casey for something so stupid.

Perhaps the driver was aggressively ‘horning’ him. Isn’t using the horn to vent frustration, rather than warn of danger, illegal (it is back home)? I see a lot of the former here, A honks at B [1 second], B honks back [3 seconds], A honks back again [6 seconds]. Passive aggressive ego-sparring played out from the safety of a car with all the doors locked.

I have no idea what the scooter-rider was aiming to achieve, and I don’t think it helps having people acting as ‘judge and jury’. If he were seeking to avoid ERP (for what a $1?), is walking a scooter across a junction illegal? If it were, how could he be prosecuted now that any evidence has been turned into a public circus?

If the driver was ‘horning’ him is that any less aggressive than the gesture he got in return? The fact there is no audio speaks volumes.

‘Stompers’ often seem to need an FT target of the week to focus their green-eyes upon, all from the safety of behind their computers. I’m surprised it’s tolerated; is facilitating/invoking racial hatred (and even murder) ‘ok’ here? It was somewhat comforting to see the few ‘voice of reason’ comments, but it hardly balances out the likes of ‘Kill him!’.
