Beware: Spam phone-calls

Post by JR8 » Fri, 02 May 2014 11:02 pm

I've had three calls from +371 numbers these last two days. Rings just once, and that's it. It's a scam.

This applies to +371 and +375 numbers].

Just in case anyone else gets any, since there is absolutely nothing I've done to merit getting them.

I reported it and it is being investigated. If I do get any useful conclusion from them I'll copy it here.

p.s. The calls have stopped for me too: For now?

My husband mentioned he got two calls from a 371 number a few days ago but didn't answer. The 371 country code is Latvia.

I got a call from phone number 36-101 a few days ago but wasn't near my phone. No message was left. The 36 country code is Hungary.

However, probably not someone calling from those countries if a spammer.

I've had these recently; their likely testing for 'live' numbers to sell to companies.....

Had the same too and the calls have now stopped.

I did try and call back the first time it happened but the number was constantly engaged. No surprise really.

And just now, on the topic of scams etc, I just received the following from my wife...
----------------------

'something scary just happened. i got a message from tony via fb messenger. he first asked if i was online, then asked if i had ibanking. then he asked if i cld possibly help - by transferring funds into an account and he will pay me by cash later. so i asked who this was, and to ensure he's not a nigerian scammer, could he send me a picture of himself now. he said he couldnt, cos he was using his computer to chat (which T would never do), so i replied by saying that i will wait for his identification confirmation over whatsapp. then i texted T and he confirmed that his fb account got hacked! There are signs up in the Western Union shops alerting people about the scam your wife suffered. Seems to be an increase in activity on money laundering here recently.
