Why oh why? (SAF doing city centre bombing runs)

Why do they do it? I hate it. Night after night, incl right now.

It's sort of creepy and paranoid, and hugely intrusive.

Military fighter jets, doing low level, and very noisy, bombing runs at 6-8pm. Maybe 60* over a space of 2 hours. This currently seems to be happening every few days.

It's not fun. I've not known anything like it anywhere else...

We are not on any obvious flight-path, rather, a boring old heartland suburb.

It's not a bombing run, they're circling around for touch-and-gos. We went over this before. They don't have a lot of options given how small Singapore is; more than 50% of the country is "city center".

We are getting overflown (directly) by jets, C130's, Apache's and Chinooks.

The jets are one thing but the bl@@dy Chinooks make my windows at home and the office rattle something stupid. The downdraft and noise is probably something that wouldn't pass environmental laws these days (when you think how tightly LTA controls car exhausts).

No idea why helicopters need to fly around so much, definitely can't be the same 'touch'n'go' excuse.

Another option might be doing it in the US where they also seem to spend a lot of time training.

I'm not disturbed *at all* by the zillions of flights at Changi, but the military stuff is really obtrusive. Hence my curiosity.

The preparations for National Day have begun.

I'd bet that military gets an exemption from noise and emissions laws.

that's his it is all over the world

civilian planes get banned for not complying with noise pollution rules, but air forces, even just those carrying soldiers around, are exempt, recently I saw a foreign AF 737 adv @ Changi ... for those who can recall the 737 adv, it was still screeching and howling when it took off ...

ps. for those complaining just remember this, RSAF only has a fraction of their air planes in SG, majority are in Texas, France and Australia ... if all of them come over here, it will be bigger drama

The two (and only two) purposes of the Singapore military:
- Brainwashing the young men.
- Putting up a good show for National Day.
