recommendations for nursery in district 19

Post by Lailafamily » Mon, 21 Apr 2014 11:33 am

Hi all,

Am looking for recommendations for nursery for my son who will be 3 years old when he joins (looking to start him around Sept ideally). Am looking for full day but maybe just twice a week initially, and yes English should be the main language as that is the only one he knows! Don't want to disorient him completely! Its going to be hard enough for him to leave his school and friends here...

All recommendations are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I see you're American. I'm pretty sure that Stamford American International School is in District 19. The school typically has open houses each month, so you might want to check out their web site and see if one is coming up soon. I've been to an open house there and the campus is wonderful, but the tuition is pricey. It's one price whether you go 3x per week or 5x. There's no hard-sell tactics or anything that I've experienced. But, yes, it is a for-profit school as some might warn you, as are several other International Schools and international preschools.

You also mentioned wanting to start him this fall/autumn. Keep in mind that starting in the fall is kind of a foreign concept for local schools in Singapore (whereas it's very typical in the USA). First of all, they don't know what "fall" is here because the weather is the same year around. Second of all, public schools are off here only in the month of June and in the last part of Nov and all of Dec. There are a few weeklong breaks between semesters as well and public holidays. Therefore, if you're interested in local school, it might be best to start him in July.

Thanks for your reply. We are not keen to send him to an International School/nursery/playschool due to the high costs of it. Over kill for a 3-4 year old I feel! We are keen to put him in a good( private?) playschool/Nursery where there are a good mix of nationalities and English is the main language. We are planning to move there in August and hence I wld like to start him somewhere in Sept. The husband is there and can do the needful to get him registered at a school but I need to give him suggestions as to where to go look.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

We have our two kids in Shaws pre-school, Braddell Heights. We can definitely recommend it.
