Can anyone recommend a good Baptist church in the East?

Post by Everlasting » Fri, 28 Mar 2014 1:41 pm

Hi there,

We have been attending sunday church service in Australia and are now looking for one in the East? I would prefer one which is more lively in terms of worship etc....and kids friendly.

Thks for your recommendation...

Honestly I have yet to find a Baptist church that is "lively". Most Baptist and Methodist churches here (not all) lean heavily to Chinese congregations and with that, very typical Chinese way of worship service (keyword: sombre), despite being in English language.

The only Baptist church I know that is expat-friendly would be International Baptist church in Farrer Road (West).

If you want "lively", you will have to find a charismatic, pentecostal churches like City Harvest, New Creation or Trinity. These churches are also known to be mega-churches with branches all over the country, with very lively and contemporary approach to worship and music, and with organisation-like structure of children, youth etc ministry.

If you're familiar with Hillsong back in Australia, the ones I mentioned above would fit in your description.

Perhaps you can share more on what your family is more familiar with, and we can help to advise better. PNGMK is our resident Christian living advisor in this forum so he may be able to advise better.

Thks so much for sharing...I went to one (not to mention the name here) so I got what you were saying!

We were attending "Crossway" in australia...but I would imagine it will be hard to find something "similar"....

You'll probably find a Crossway similar church.

IBC (as above) use Hillsong.

Watch out for the 'prosperity' churches... Lots of them around.

My general rule of thumb is that if the bible is not referenced or quoted within the first 30 minutes I leave.

Or if quoted out of context or interpreted to suit the favourite topics of the masses (money, prosperity, success).

Check out New Creation Church. I grew up in church, went to catholic school, and I learned more in 2 years at NCC than the rest of my life.

It's like a master's program in Bible studies.

Actually no. In 2 years they only preached on tithing once, and it was made clear that it's not a requirement for Christians (it is for those who practice Judaism though). There was also 2 offerings for the new building.

Most other churches I've been to in the US preach on giving every week for 5-10 minutes, and I don't really care for it.

Is NCC one of those churches that look like a rock concert or Tony Robbins event?

The answer to that is yes.
