I buy my fish at Meidi-Ya and specifically at the sushi section where I pick up a block of tuna that I can cut at home for sashimi. But I do get your point that regular fresh fish in the non-sushi section at supermarkets is meant to be cooked/prepared properly, with heat.

Some supermarkets stock sashimi meat. It was mentioned to me that one can get sashimi grade tuna at the regular supermarket in the USA. Just ask the fishmonger. And then there is the option of Asian markets.
