Coming back to Singapore with PR credit card debt

Post by aries123 » Sat, 15 Mar 2014 5:52 pm

Hey guys, Ive been wondering if the immigration or police etc will let me enter Singapore at the changi airport?

here is my story, i was a PR and i released it almost 3 years ago on april/may 2011. so for this 3 years back for goods in my country. Before i release my pr and went back for goods, i owe credit cards for a few different banks and also a personal loan so in total i think about 20-25k. I've ignored the banks for bout 3 years..

So im planning to go to Singapore for holiday next month... am i clear to inside and out of singapore or will they arrest me for this??

Please let me know, ive been soo afraid of this problems... i know was my fault but smthg came up n i have to go back n release my PR..

Thanks alot for the replys.

If there was already a court case (which is likely after such a long time) and you did not show up for the hearing, it is likely an arrest warrant has been issued to ensure your attendance once you come back to Singapore.
You can check with the police if an arrest warrant against you exists.
In any case, it is advisable that you contact the bank(s) and clear the matter before travelling to Singapore. You may want to appoint a lawyer to do this.
(FYI: Debts of such height can be pursued internationally, it's just a matter of time until they find you - and you'll have to pay interest and all legal fees until then as well!)

If I were you, I wouldn't even make a forum post about it using my own IP, no matter where I am. You would be crazy to even think about coming to Singapore.

Another one of these ...
Thankfully, ecureilx has quoted the complete original post (now removed) and the Moderators can probably re-install the original thread title (and ban the poster).

You should be more concerned if, when, and how he left the country.

It's unlikely that a civil matter (debt) would involve either the police or immigration IME.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

PNGMK, True. However, he'd probably feel the impact smartly when he tried to apply for credit or even possibly telecommunications and/or public utilities as they have been starting to use the credit bureau now as well. He could then find himself in a bit of a jam.

but if the person is declared a bankrupt by default, leaving Singapore will be an offence.

And ICA "MAY" stop him - though I don't know if it happened to anybody

But I know those declared Bankrupt but left got letter of warning within a couple of days, so I guess ICA feeds the info to MinLaw.

So, they may have the instructions to stop those bankrupts leaving.

Or if the bank managed to convince relevant authorities that the person had the intent to leave the country without paying the debt while making it.

Meanwhile...

High-rollers get lavish treatment and hefty credit lines at Singapore's two casinos, like any other gaming house in the world. But here, more of them skip town without paying their debt, a matter of increasing concern for investors.
