I've been looking around at nursery schools for my 2-year-old and found that some of the schools have time set aside each day for the teachers to give the kids baths or showers. It seems something like that is unnecessary and would take an inordinate amount of time. Maybe I'm missing something.
Any insight on this practice?

Ours (NTUC MyFirstSchool, which has branches all over Singapore) has no bathing facilities.
What is your problem with kids bathing?

I don't have problems with this. It just sounds kind of strange (in my opinion) that it would be done at school, especially when there are about 5 or 6 students per teacher. Seems like a lot of time and effort to undress, bathe and then diaper and re-dress so many kids.

I was also a bit surprised at first when I saw this on the daily itinerary, which was for a Montessori childcare we were starting to look into.... But then their full day is 7am-7pm which is quite a long time, and I think it was programmed as part of the sleep routine ahead of afternoon nap. So it made more sense to me...

My son goes to a local preschool which bathes the kids after lunch and prior to their nap. I find it odd, especially as they are indoors all day, in AC and never get dirty. I've heard of another preschool that bathes the children BEFORE their lunch which seems even more strange.

I wonder if this all has something to do with the local school habit of children urinating while taking a shower.

Maybe its due to some parents dropping their kids off in pyjamas and picking them up again in pyjamas. They probably don't get time to bathe at home

we just interviewed about 6 preschools for our little one.
everyone of them did this lunch/shower/nap routine.
i thought it was very odd at first too, but they explained they run around and play at get sweaty in the morning, as well as messy at lunch. So they just hose them down before nap.
i thought it was very odd, but they all did it. makes more sense when they play outside i agree.

They are not 'nursery schools' so much as day cares. Kids will be dropped off anywhere from 7am to 9am and leave anywhere from ~3pm to 7pm depending on working parents etc.
There isn't a huge amount of activity later in the afternoon as kids wait to be picked up so just after lunch could be a suitable time for showering, after all the heavy running, painting and maths in the morning before snoozing in the afternoon.
