Shout out to Lt. Tiffany Neo (aka SCDF Rookie Hero)

Post by PNGMK » Sun, 02 Mar 2014 12:42 pm

IT's people like this that give me hope for Singapore. Way to go rookie! (Note that as an SCDF officer she is not armed nor trained in combat and yet pushed through and defended people against attack).

In short;

Lt Neo, 26, who joined the SCDF in January last year told the Committee of Inquiry (COI) on Friday about her role in the events on the night of Dec 8 - a role in which she displayed various acts of bravery in just 45 minutes.

They included her protecting the body of the accident victim against the rioters, rescuing the bus driver and timekeeper from the bus, and staying behind amid the violence to help an injured colleague.

so the police assistant superintendant was brave.

and fire rescue's lieutenant was brave.

i don't hear any rank and file officers (the bulk of those on the ground) being commended, beyond praise for an auxiliary policeman being able to take 4 men down (not arrests) single-handedly.

From the little I've followed; they appeared to have been ordered to stand back or stand down. I'm certain that if they'd be ordered to charge in and attempt to seize control they would have tried. I've never doubted the bravery of the SPF on an individual basis; but the competency of their leadership and the level of bureaucracy they work under worries me.

I can't believe Singapore allows both commissioners of the SCDF and SPF to go on leave at the same time. It looks like a very poor system of backups is in place.

The riot was definitely well timed in that regard.
