Are Singaporeans Materialistic?

Post by stephaniechaunte » Fri, 28 Feb 2014 9:09 pm

Hi! I am conducting an online questionnaire to study materialistic behaviour in Singapore. It will be a huge favour if you could spare me 3 minutes to complete this survey!

The link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PQ93H2H

Thank you so much!

I looked at your survey questions- AND you expect to find a representative sample on an "Expats" forum?

Ofcourse yes, Singaporeans are materialistic and spend too much attention on how they look. Have a read at the beauty section on the number of people who want to go to South Korea(which I think is another materialistic country) to do Plastic Surgery to look beautiful. In America only a Michael Jackson would do it, that gives you an idea how materialistic Singaporeans are

Buy me a motorcycle and then I'll think about your survey.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

The answer is more one of ethnicity than one of nationality.

I find Chinese Singaporeans to be materialistic, I don't see that of Indian and Malay Singaporeans so much.

Likewise, if you go to China, materialism is very typical.

being greedy for gold and being materialistic (i.e. judging others and your success by possessions) is not really the same thing.

Ah, yes, Singapore part of PRC.

Headline News: Online survey attempts indicate Expats are more materialistic than Singaporeans. Singaporeans will queue up for a survey when offered a free scoop of ice cream but these expats want new Omegas!

Yeah, but they will get into fist fights (doctors & lawyers) in McD's and break down the glass doors in Micky D's just to get the free Hello Kitty dolls (these are guys, mind you!). I'd patiently wait for quite a which for a free Omega. See, I'm not that materialistic, I didn't ask for a Lolex! And I bought an HDB without COV.
