Any Indian dentist trying for job or any course in Singapore???

I got a couple of wisdom teeth hurting atm.. I'll pay in Rupees..

I also have a wisdom tooth thats like slanting 45 deg and pushing against another teeth and it hurts me from time to time. I have had this for the last 10 years and I have avoided getting it removed. So far it hasnt given me any serious bouts of pain, but not sure how long I can avoid surgery/removal.

The last time I saw a dentist here was in Q&M, it was an Indian dude from the UK.
He gasped in mock exasperation at my chipped tooth, said my tooth had no hope, then said he'd take an x-ray and then suggested a root canal and a crown and he thought my gums needed laser surgery and quoted 3000$ for everything, meanwhile charging 80$ for consultation,x ray, they wanted an additional 5$ to give me a printed copy of my x-ray.

I flew to Bali instead for 300SGD, got my root canal and crown fixed for 150 SGD!!
No wonder everyone has bad teeth here! dental treatment here costs an arm and a limb!

I go to Q&M in city square and TP. The difference is astounding. In City Square it's a high level of service - and depending on the dentist they will try to screw you. I've recently had most of my metal filings removed and replaced with ceramic infills at $1000 a pop. Quite happy. Before that I had an entire tooth replaced though with a milled ceramic copy and it was damn expensive.

Now if you go to Toa Payoh - they put you in a chair and pretty much offer you two options - removal or filling (or cleaning or go somewhere else).

any signs of infection or (mild) fever? no? it may go away after a few days of gentle pain killers : )

i refuse to have mine removed, too! if you're worried, go get an x-ray to compare how much your tooth's moved since your last x-ray. remember to take a picture of it if the dentist won't let you keep yours.

The insurance(Aviva) that my employer provides, strangely covers a lots of things, but not dental. Dental coverage is like $250 or $400 something per year. Many of my colleagues use it for getting their teeth polished.

i refuse to have mine removed, too! if you're worried, go get an x-ray to compare how much your tooth's moved since your last x-ray. remember to take a picture of it if the dentist won't let you keep yours.

No pain at the moment but like once in a year or so I can feel the tooth push the nearby tooth and that causes slight pain. I then use my index finger nail to push the tooth back and then the pain goes away. The biggest issue is there is gap due to the 45 deg slant and food goes and sits there. Its just a matter of time that the food stuck there will cause decay or something

If it silently abscesses... you could lose your jaw. That's the reason dentists want to remove wisdom teeth.

i brush and gargle like a madman every day. i don't like having any type of surgery performed on me.

your tooth doesn't sounds impacted... and needs some work... but still best to get it checked out once a year or so by a dentist. whether or not you want to take the dentist's advice is up to you.

who knows... you might be able to get it sorted with a quick yank. but conventional medical advice generally states it's wiser (hah!) to have them removed earlier than later.

mmmm. i'm not looking forward to it.

there're plenty of complications that can occur from not removing wisdom teeth. this doesn't necessarily mean they will occur.

the person that can make the best judgment are two impartial dentists. unfortunately, most dentists people consult prefer making a profit from removing teeth.

the need to surgically remove third molars at a later age (coupled with other health complications) can make it extremely difficult so i think older dentists prefer to take a preventive stance against these teeth, while ignoring whether any of them can properly and healthily exist.

i prefer to keep as many of mine for as long as possible.

Q&M docs are sort of self employed, working on a commission of amount billed, or something like that

If you're really hard up go to the student clinic at NUS. They charge $25 or so for a cleaning. They have no idea what they're doing mind you.

We have a two-tier dental plan in our family. DH and I go to the cheap guy on the corner. Luckily we both grew in a place with good dental cards. The babies go to the expat dentists and orthodontist now.
