hi. We are expecting our first child end of the year. We are looking for some help but ideally not a live in nanny/helper.

Your best bet would be to go through one of several agencies, such as this one:

If you choose to hire someone on the side, please be sure they are a Singaporean or PR. Foreigners on work permits (such as maids/helpers who work for an individual family) cannot legally do side jobs, even if their employer says it's ok. Dependent pass holders can't legally work either. Check IDs. I know that sounds like overkill, but it's necessary.
