Hi everyone,
My parents will be relocating to Singapore for 2 years this August. My mum will be working at the new Dulwich College school on Bukit Batok West Avenue 8.
Does anyone have any recommendations regarding where they should live? Any advice regarding the best
condos would be really helpful. Not necessarily in Bukit Batok itself.
Best wishes,
Hannah, UK

The No of
condos in this area is rather limited (as compared to the more down-town Singapore) so I would just take a map and go one by one. You should visit them anyway before making any decision.
Very near to the location you mentioned are the Mayfair and Parc Oasis. Both are reasonable (or at least used to be few years ago). The Mayfair is smaller and nicer (my subjective opinion of course). I would start with these two.

You can try the Jade, it's right at Bkt. Batok Centre and right next to the MRT meaning there's loads of buses passing also.....makes it a very easy commute.
Everything else is within walking distance (West Mall etc.).
Failing that you can even look up as far as Choa Chu Kang as there will be a couple of buses running down Bkt. Batok Road towards Jurong that should stop pretty near West Av.8.

IMHO Jade is a bit overprised because it almost sits on top of the MRT station so it may not be the most reasonable solution for somebody who is not going to use MRT. This adds up like S$300-400 to the rental.

Bearing in mind a fair few newcomers will head that way so school runs are easier will she really want to live surrounded by pupils?
I'd look at Jalan jurong kechil and Toh tuck.

Or even Hillview or Upper Bukit Timah area if they can make do with buses to commute to work.

There will be no getting away from that, no matter if around Toh Tuck where I am anyway.
Whilst I accept the Jade is a bit pricey, the convenience makes up for the difference as the only
condo in the area within walking distance of the facilities. Somebody coming in on a 2-yr contract should definitely not be looking at getting a car so bus/MRT/taxi availability are the only suitable option.
Madeira etc. are a bit far and Hillview is not cheap anymore either (or convenient) so my next choice would be someplace around Choa Chu Kang MRT/Bus Terminus such as the Warren or Northvale.

Palm Gardens and a bicycle.
At the and of the day it really comes down to the individual preferences. I would not like to live few meters away from a big mall or MRT station and prefer to have more quiet surrounding with some nearby parks rather than the convenience of buying something within 2 min walk. I live right now in the Hillview area right between Bukit Batok Nature Park and Bukit Batok Town Park and I really like it.

My fiancé is also starting at Dulwich in August and we have been looking at
condos around lakeside and Boon Lay MRT as these would only involve a short journey to Bukit Batok. Although it's not much farther the other way to H.V. we thought we'd get more for our money out West.

It may be a long shot but thought I would still give it a go. Anyone in the west who would be keen for a cuppa & a play date for a 8 year old girl?...
