Singapore Airlines' Unaccompanied Baggage?

Post by estafette72 » Mon, 17 Feb 2014 10:23 am

Hello all, my wife and I are repatriating back to the USA and are looking for options to ship some of our household goods.

I'm looking into using Singapore Airlines' Unaccompanied Baggage (http://www.siacargo.com/Unaccompanied_Baggage.asp). I am curious if anyone has used it before and, if so, how the experience was for you.

As my wife and I are on local contracts, we'd rather not pay the huge price of a relocation company (best price so far was US$6,000 - we don't even own that much worth of stuff!), so I'm looking into alternative options. Right now we're looking at paying roughly $400/box to ship it as normal extra baggage with SIA, United, etc. so I'm wondering if this is any cheaper.

My rough shipping estimate is 4-6 boxes containing clothes, photos, dish-ware, etc., roughly 10-20kg per box max.

Thanks in advance!

If you go to http://www.singpost.com/index.php and enter USA as the destination and 20,000g as the weight you will get at least 2 sub-S$300 options available.

You can also check out First Flight couriers, they are quite reasonably priced and got me goods to UK in 2 weeks.

Be sure you go into Singpost and buy their boxes for this, and specifiy you're trying to ship with this option. I went in and bought a different box (Size "5") and thought I would get this price, but did not.
