Employment pass renewal

Post by Steve1960 » Mon, 17 Feb 2014 8:45 am

Our 2 years here comes around in April so I started the EP renewal process this month.

We use a third party to manage this kind of stuff. They submitted the renewal on 6th February and the following day MoM sent the in principle approval.

I thought that was unusually fast, any comments?

But the new EP will be valid from April or from now? In the latter case they effectively slashed 2 months of stay for you.

Its from the day its given to the end of what 2 yrs would have been. at least thats what happened with mine.

Mine was up for renewal last June, company applied for renewal in February and my new pass was ready by the end of the week for pick and was valid until June 2015 so my last few months of my previous pass were tacked on to the front of my new pass.

Well I will let you know what happened when I get the new pass but seems like I will not lose the two months.

I am not overly concerned either way. I could be here for a little as 1 year or as long as 10 years depending on employment and retirement plans.

It's normal.

The process is basically automated on EPs unless there is a red flag or non-descript issue in which case they'll put through an automatic rejection and work through the problem during any appeal.

I got my EP renewed today. In my case it took approximately one month to renew it. I had to open a ticket with my company's HR help desk who in turn contact a third party which then get in touch with me. It took an extra two weeks due to the Chinese new year. I also found that on the MoM website it says that it takes longer if you submit a manual renewal application as opposed to an E-application made on-line. I'm not sure what method this third party company chose but I was sitting on my thumb for a while until I finally got my EP renewed.
In my case my EP was due to expire end of May and in the renewal, I did receive the extra 3 months.
I hadn't posted in a while here, I thought I'd just share my experience in this regard.

btw howdy to all the old timers..SMS,JR8 etc.. :D
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Good to hear that. Thanks for updating.

My EP renewal was done via online portal by the HR. It was very quick; within 24 hours. But I'm in different industry so that may matter a lot.

So my EP expiry was early November.
HR informed me about the request for renewal in early September.
I had to renew my passport so I told her to hold it until I got it renewed in late September.
Renewal was submitted in early October. And approved within a day.
Had to do medical check up and submit the rest of the documents to MOM around mid October.
Got my new shiny EP by late October.

I am on PEP which is technically good until end of this year. I am looking for a new job. I am now confused whether to straight away ask my future company to apply for an EP or continue on the PEP until like the end of the year.

The drawback of continuing on PEP and waiting until the end of the year is that in August the job bank is going to kick in and not sure how it will impact cases where a foreign employee is already working for a company. Should the company still advertise in the job bank and look for a Singaporean/PR?

The drawback of applying for an EP right away is that if this new job turns sour in a couple of months, I wont have the flexibility of job change that a PEP offers. The most critical phase of a job is the first couple of months to 6 months and if something has to go wrong it will go wrong in this period.

The middle path is to continue on PEP and then in couple of months like in June ask the company to apply for EP.

Ofcourse, I need to find a new job first otherwise all the above is a moot point.
