Why I stop posting or replies to all inquiries

Post by Mad Scientist » Fri, 14 Feb 2014 12:57 pm

I've deleted the entire thread. I'm rather disappointed in the forum at the moment as the regulars (some of them) seemed hell-bent on the destruction of the OP and the outing of the OP's husband's place of work. That is a no-no from the start. I don't like that at all and nobody here should post that kind of information unless we are outing a spammer or troll. I had hoped that once I made my comment that everybody would back off and the thread would quickly become buried, but no, everybody doubled down and just kept bumping the thread to keep in on top. I should have made my comment and just locked the thread but I made a mistake in hoping common sense would prevail. It's probably better that the whole thread is gone but I worry, as I feel that it can lead to the idea that we can delete anything that we don't agree with (other than the obvious stuff like advertisers). I never want this forum to become something like that.

We shouldn't be dissing the locals as we have just shown we aren't all that different. Think

The above came from SMS posting which the thread was locked and rightfully so from the get go as it was turning to custard somewhere halfway.
Lambasting and putting the OP down when OP was already lying dead it was absolute shocker which I refused to take part in this forum anymore even after several inquiries via PMs. Hence I have been keeping quiet
If we so called "expat" think for one second we are better than them and have the right to trash the locals then we are far worse than them.
If we think we are on high moral ground compare to local and pushing down the throats of the locals of what we think is right then we are dead wrong.
Foreign invaders Brits, French, Americans and the likes did more damages to these part of the world in the name of modernisation etc which is really a pack of BS to me. So do not come here to preach what is right in "your eyes".
I am a mixed breed from Indonesia to Portugese , Chinese and Thai mixed into one.Hence I am speaking out for both side of the fence.
I hated what the locals did to other locals, FDWs etc as they treated them like a second class humans and I hated expat brandishing their "my way or the highway" showoff.
Les we forget we are all humans and we should treat all with respect and humility
Who can say he or she is better person?
No one can .
Everyone can
If we treat others with respect, it will be reciprocated the same
If we treat other with disgust, do not come here and stand on the higher moral ground

Yeah I was a little surprised as well. OP had a real issue (to me anyways0 and for some reason people laid into her.

SMS: You did the right thing!
There's too much judgement and too little tolerance of differing views on this forum, especially from some of the long-standing regulars.

MS I'm not sure if keeping quiet was a good thing. I mean your opinion on the OPs issue would've been very valuable. And why should you allow the noise to drown your idea when you have something sensible to say?

Sad that the thread had to be locked- I did not appreciate a lot of the comments made but sad to see that policing of that kind is needed here. I mean part of the reason I enjoy this forum is because of the differing opinions and insights into how different individuals view the same thing. As long as people can disagree and not be disrespectful.

Normally this kind of policing is not needed but once for a while it happens. What was strange this time that it was purely driven by the regulars with the OP not taking part in it (well, she was banned). Most of the locked threads are where the OP actively stirs the pot.
