Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else was getting cold calls about investing in stocks or financial advice? Quite annoying and I don't believe any of these guys can be trusted.
I've been over here in Singapore after moving from the UK three years ago.

I think everybody gets such calls. I already lost my count how many times I rejected to meet up with a director of a reputable company trying to help me to spend my money.

Thanks. I've just recently started to receive them. I must have been recently added to some database somewhere

There is a spam-call barring list here in SG. Maybe Google it. Takes some weeks to really kick-in, but it does work.

I get it both ways, but, yeah, financial services (non-banking) via office phone and local banking financial services on mobile as well as
property launches. Which escalated in August after my mortgage finished. Them much really comb the HDB records big time. Guess they figured since I've paid it off I'd be wantin' to upgrade. Fat Chance.

I have never got such calls. The only marketing calls I get is for personal loans from banks where I already have Credit cards/savings accounts.
I guess they target people who visit expat-ty places and somehow left your contacts numbers there

I've been receiving such calls for over 12 years. It got some increases and decreases in activity. Also the modus operandi keep changing. First they were just sort of informative, later playing really cheap "psychological" tricks and more recently (2-3y) tempting me with appointments with Mr Director (always his assistant calls). The only common component is that the people who call me speak proper English with British or American accent.

Oh yes, I got several calls about "investment/savings plan" and when I dig a bit, they reveal that its insurance. The moment I hear that word, I am put off, I dont want to listen to the call anymore.

I made the mistake of popping a business card on a glass bowl at a restaurant once, and I suspect that is what got me on the list. Usually I say no but once every few years go along for a free coffee, but after getting flogged insurance and tax havens, it reminds me to say no again for a few more years...

Mate, there is an entire thriving industry in Singapore which consists of collecting expat business cards for the express purpose of creating call lists to be sold to the financial scammers. Folks will go around to restaurants, bars, and bulletin boards, looking for left over cards to collect, and that fellow you just barely met but exchanged cards? He might be selling yours right now.

With some companies plunging as much as 78% will these big companies go bust? Maybe someone who's familiar with stocks can shed some insights?
